One of the biggest nights in Hollywood happened only a few days ago. A night recognising amazing work in film and showcasing fabulous fashion!
This year I managed to catch the whole show and it was truly a spectacular night. However, as always I was more interested in the pre-show red carpet. After a tough time of sifting through various shots trying to find my favourite looks, I found my winners!
MOST FABULOUS & WINNER: Taraji P. Henson (Alberta Ferretti)
An. Absolute. Vision. Ms Henson knocked out all of the competition with her amazing gown. The blue velvet gown is stunning (as is her left leg) and compliments her figure fabulously. I expected nothing short of perfect, especially after the frocks she had been wearing throughout award season, and Queen pulled through! Everything from the neckline to the slit to the glitzy necklace are all perfect. Thank you for blessing us, Taraji! (Make sure to check out Hidden Figures!)
MOST PRETTY: Felicity Jones (Dior)
How ballerina-chic! I loved this elegant number on Felicity and I think that the dress is very underrated and I hereby decree that everyone should appreciate this masterpiece more. The dress is different from the typical floor length attire, but still very appropriate for the Oscars and shows off her gold strappy heels. The tulle and splash of sparkle throughout the dress work very well together. Felicity pulled it all together at the Oscars and I’ll definitely be looking out for her on carpets to come!
MOST GREEN: Emma Roberts (Armani Privé)
Her two-toned dress was not only fabulous, but a statement for the ‘Red Carpet Green Dress’ campaign that brings awareness to sustainable living. The vintage Armani Privé dress is perfect against her fiery hair, every aspect complimenting each other from the hair to the bold red lip to the monochromatic dress.
MOST TIMELESS: Emma Stone (Givenchy)
Am I the only one having a #TBT moment? That fringe. ‘Nuff said. The low waisted look, fitted bodice, gold colour, lace trimmed straps and patterned detail are exquisite to put it simply. Emma always shines on a carpet, and this is no exception.
MOST YAASS: Hailee Steinfeld (Ralph & Russo)
Not only is this gown absolutely fabulous, but the dark and daring make up look keeps the youth of Ms Steinfeld. This dress is having a moment and everyone is paying attention. Note: I love floral anything and the floral pattern laced through the dress is high class, not to mention the halter neck that is very in fashion at the moment. Can we also appreciate that scallop lining around the dress? Just fabulous.
MOST DARING: Janelle Monae (Elie Saab)
Now, this dress has been toying between the best dressed and worst dress lists and, though not usually my cup of tea, Janelle is working it. The birds on the halter top are very accurately placed and work modestly, still revealing her melanin-popping skin and adding some sultry glam. Take a deep breath cause that skirt tho! The panelled skirt that mixes patterns works with that top, you cannot deny that, and the sheer size gives princess vibes (like Janelle herself). I cannot deny that it all just works ⏤ clashing patterns and prints and fabrics, yet Janelle makes it seem like they all were made for each other.
The bolder the better, especially on darker skin tones. Ruth and Viola both rock the bright red and the colour shines through and through! The Valentino vintage vibe is classic and the ruby head band is something else (can we share, Ruth?). The cold-shoulder look from Viola is perfect and very trendy. Octavia is having a silver moment and looks completely flawless, also working the off-the-shoulder gown with a feathery, full skirt. Finally, Naomi’s dress that takes a fresh interpretation on the asymmetrical hem is very chic and did you notice the mismatched shoes?
So these were my top picks and runner ups. Did you see your favourite? Let me know!
‘Till the next award season!
Hope you enjoyed the first #FabulousFriday!
